Im sure a lot of people think that the release is enough to get a car out from under their responsibility. Look I found the info on the DMV site this is what they said, and I WISH I would have read/known about. Signed and dated form of what? The release.
the settlement basically forced her into bankruptcy because the injured parties lawyer would not let up.even after they told them that it would force them into bankruptcy and they would get nothing anyway. fast forward.she is now liable for medical bills of the wreck. the DMV traces it all the way back to her and say no release was done. My office manager sold her car to her brother.thought they filled out the release and sent in to DMV.brother then sells to someone who then gets into an accident with it. you may still be out the money for the ticket though.im sure the recipient of the ticket thanks you. if you never filled out the release or it never went through DMV's website.then you are screwed. you're in the legal right if you filed the appropriate paperwork. I figure $50 is not worth it, and this person has gotten 2 other tickets besides that one, which I paid!! I went to the DMV and asked why if I had done the release on it, (yes, I guess I was naive or ignorant) but she told me that I'm basically screwed unless I get the person who has the car now to go down with me and put the registration in her name. I got a ticket in my name sent to my house about a week ago for the car I sold. I gave them the original guy's name and information who I sold the car to, and I thought I was done. I filled out a form online at the DMV's web site, which I thought released me from liability. who then in turn sold it to someone else, who paid to fix it, who then sold it fixed to a lady in San Francisco. :)Ībout two months ago my car broke down, I sold it a mechanic. I need some advice, if anyone has any clue as to what I should do please let me know.
